Lino Tralhão held a 5 year first degree in Electric Engineering (Telecommunications) and a PhD in Operations Research, both at the University of Coimbra. He was for 24 years lecturer in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at University of Coimbra. He has been a full-time researcher at INESC Coimbra, where, since 1986 he developed R&D activities in Stochastic Service Systems and applications to Teletraffic Networks, and, since 2005, in Urban Planning and Logistics, developing computational algorithms for multiobjective decision support models based on mathematical programming and also in GIS applications.

He has published, among other journals, in: European Journal of Operational Research, Geographical Analysis, Journal of Transport Geography, Municipal Engineer - Institution of Civil Engineers,  Waste Management.
