Advanced Engineering Course in the Integrated Masters-Doctoral Program (see Fig. 1).
3.8.1.3. Teaching/Research Guidance System
1) Guidance System
In addition to guidance for doctoral dissertation research, the International Doctoral Program in Engineering
for Sustainability offers comprehensive guidance on sustainability engineering, including economic and poli-
cy aspects. International students admitted to the course will attend lectures and seminars on a variety of sub-
jects according to the curriculum of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Course. After being admitted to the
Special course, students will be immediately assigned to a laboratory according to their specialized field,
where they will acquire basic knowledge and skills in specialized research methodology and pursue doctoral
dissertation research under the meticulous guidance of the supervisor and other faculty members.
3.8.2. Global Engineering
3.8.2.1. Overview
The twentieth century can be characterized by a rapid increase in population, advances in industrial technolo-
gies that have supported and enhanced human life, and mass consumption of natural resources, as well as
emerging environmental pollution problems as a result of the technological development and global indus-
trialization. Now that the door has been opened to the twenty-first century in such a state, we must develop
plausible solutions for our civilization by reconstructing and combining various fields of study based on new
ideas on humanity and the environment – a new global image.
We have proposed a "Global Engineering" as a practical science to construct a new cultural form and to solve
the emerging problems based on the new global image.
The Undergraduate School of Global Engineering consists of three courses:
1. Earth Resources and Energy Science, which focuses on the engineering systems of the essential resources
and energy needed for the management of civilization,
2. Civil Engineering, which focuses on the engineering systems of the infrastructure that acts as the basic
support for civilization, and
